Didn't know that was a option I guess. I have the vest airway clearance but didn't help me as much as hypertonic saline does.
If such a thing exists for home use, I'd love to know more about it. Please and thanks.
Hello! Yes, airway clearance devices, the best and saline are used at home. They usually use suction machines in the hospital , mostly when patients cannot bring up their own mucous and are very congested.
Hi,
How was your experiences with airway clearance devises ( suction machine)?
I have a suffering mother
She has an advanced form of mycobacteria disease
She spends hours everyday in the bathroom coughing up mucous
I think she coughs up about 1/2 l a day
It is very tiering for her.
I am trying to find a home solution to help her as she refuses to go to the hospital as she has decided that she does not want to take antibiotics treatment
My family and I can not convince her to do otherwise
I would love to have some return from you all!
greetings from Norway!

Hello Kay,
Welcome to the site. Below is some information on airway clearance:https://www.bronchiectasisandntminitiative.org/Learn-More/Learn-More/Coping-with-Airway-Mucus
It is so important to do airway clearance regularly. Does she take an expectation,? Mucinex

Hi Kay48. Home suction (or portable suction) machines are typically not used in a home care setting by patients unless they have an artificial airway (like a tracheostomy). The reason for this is twofold. 1. It requires some technique that advances a suction catheter down the nose and into the back of the throat (very rarely can you get a suction catheter further than this point without gagging/coughing). 2. The patient risks injury to the nasal passages from repeated attempts (causing swelling/bleeding).
I would definitely take a look at the airway clearance pages that Katie pointed out. There are many techniques/devices that you can try at home that might help. Keep in mind, that you may have to switch these devices/techniques up occasionally based on you needs and what seems to work.
So glad you asked this question! Thanks!

Kay,
I agree w Christine that home suction machines can be very dangerous if one is not trained well in the technique. Many other options exist, as mentioned in the link above
