Aspergillus fumigatus
My pulmo told me before I show antibodies for aspergillus some years ago but that he wouldn't treat it as we pick it up in the air. I guess its easy to do. Noticing on my ct scan of the end of April that is shows aspergillus on that too. So when I had my bronchoscopy a few years ago whey didn't the sample they took show aspergillus? They said normal flora. I remember 2006 when in the hospital for strep pneumonia and very sick my sub pulmo said I had aspergillus and was giving me a fungal med that started closing up my throat. After getting out of the hospital seeing my regular pulmo he said he doubted I had it then. This all confusing but will bring this up again in August appt.

DAJ,,
Hello! I haven’t. Hopefully, other members will chime in. I have a friend who has dealt with aspergillosis if you have a specific question. Katie

Ksmiles123 and Kandy, thank you both for responding. Katie, my question would be how they treated it and if the treatment was successful. I just got a fungus culture back showing Aspergillus fumigatus. I did two samples. The first came back "no mold." But the second came back with Aspergillus, which I find confusing so I will probably get a third done. I have been having a problem with breathing and a lot of mucous/coughing. About every 2 months I need to go on Tobi and prednisone, but I didn't go on the prednisone after seeing the fungus report. However, I had been doing research on colloidal silver and just got my bottle yesterday. I had used it years ago but inconsistently. The reviews on it are amazingly good and one person used it 2x daily and also in the nebulizer for 2-3 days to eliminate bronchitis. I tried it yesterday, 1 tsp of 20ppm 2x a day and 3 ml in the nebulizer. My breathing was tight and I had been coughing non-stop morning and night and some throughout the day. This morning NO COUGHING, breathing good and very little mucous, so I'm really excited about it. But....I will still think about taking meds if a third sample comes back positive, so thanks for any insight you are able to give me. Dawn

Dawn,
Hello! You are most welcome. Yes, a 3rd specimen at the best lab possible is the right choice.I have never used colloidal silver but heard read mixed reviews on it; it is not approved by the FDA.Hopefully, the 3rd specimen will give you the right answer and the clues to get you the right treatment. Katie
I had aspergillus pneumonia last year and was treated with Cresemba. Shortly after I was
diagnosed with bronchiectasis.

Ksmiles123, It took me a while to be able to get the 2nd sample because the colloidal silver did such a good job of clearing me up that I was having a hard time getting enough mucous to do a sample. After taking the silver for 3 days in the nebulizer, I have continued with 1 tsp a day orally as maintenance. I've done quite a lot of research on colloidal silver and from what I've read, it does not seem to be a problem turning the skin dark at these low levels, only when taken in excess. I feel great, lots of energy, no coughing and did not have to take prednisone or an antibiotic, so it's worth it to me to take the silver. I was just finally able to get a 2nd sample that I dropped off this morning. I'm not sure that I will even treat if the sample comes back positive for Aspergillus because I'm feeling so well.
Hello! So glad that you are feeling so well and are no longer congested! Let us know what the sample results reveal. Enjoy the great feeling of “ feeling well!”.
Hi DAJ,
I have had aspergillus as an extra infection in my lungs. In my case, it was relatively easy to treat with a single oral antibiotic for a short period of time.

Thanks, JT, for letting me know
I had aspergillus pneumonia a year ago. I was put on Cresembra for several weeks and that did get rid of it. Shortly after I got bronchiectasis. Doctor said no relationship. Who knows??
Yes, they are uncertain whether or not it is the chicken or the egg.... that comes first. My bronchiectasis followed a pseudomonas infection
Hi Deppydo,
My experience with bronchiectasis makes me think that you didn't just "get bronchiectasis" one day, like you would catch a cold. I think bronchiectasis is a condition that starts small and unnoticed, and over time becomes more visible. Adding to that is that many radiologists and pulmonologists are not looking for it. So your bronchiectasis may have existed for awhile, and after you were treated for aspergillus, your doctor ordered a ct scan and found it.

Its been a long time since I've been on the forum. I have aspergillus also I'm allergic to it. My pulmonologist said what happen is it colonizes and usually is not a concern unless develop fever, etc. I also have MRSA which is also colonized. She is excellent. Also spoke to infection control. He wanted to put me on ant-fungal meds which I heard have really bad side effects. So I decided not to. I've been fine.
Laurie,
Welcome back to the site.
Yes, it is best to monitor if asymptomatic- just colonization at this point. Best wishes that you stay well.
