Is there a healthy eating plan one should maintain with Bronchiectasis? Does anyone have any food tips for preventing or getting rid of mucus?

Eating a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables are good for us. Fiber. I know milk doesn't cause mucus but it does bother by making it thicker maybe cut back on milk. Wheat is another mucus causing food. Here is a list of foods that cause mucus. :

– Dairy products (yogurt, milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, ice cream, butter, ghee)

– All corn products
– Eggs
– Sugary treats (cookies, cake, pies, pastries)
– Wheat (bread, pretzels, buns, bagels, muffins, etc.)
– Deep fried foods
– All soy products
– Safflower/sunflower oil
– Jams and jellies
– High-fat red meat
– Alcohol
– Caffeine
I have read where processed meats are bad for the lungs also.

This week just read where canola and vegetable oil are bad for us. I thought canola was a good one Olive oil and coconut oil are the best.

Here is the ones that relieve mucus .Radishes (red, daikon, horseradish, you name it – one of that best mucus-cleansers out there!)– All leafy greens and herbs– Cauliflower and broccoli– Garlic– Celery– Asparagus– Bamboo shoots– Onions– Ginger and turmeric– Citrus fruits (lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges, kumquats, etc.)– Pineapple– Berries– Brussels sprouts– Hot peppers. I read alot of about ppl saying pineapple is very good. That is one of my allergies.

Of course grapefruit you have to be careful with that it does react to certain medications.

Diet tips: For people who are tolerable to dairy product, yogurt is a great food for people with bronchiectasis. As we know bronchiectasis patient usually take antibiotic when they have exacerbation, or as prophylaxis. The frequent use of antibiotic can disrupt the normal flora in our body.

Yogurt contains living bacteria which good for our body. The good bacteria inside the yogurt will nourished our body. The good bacteria can also protect the body from bad bacteria.

Yogurt can be consumed everyday. It is a healthy snack, good for increasing body weight in underweight patient. If you concerned about the fat content, you can limit the consumption to 1 cup a day.

Let's eat some yogurt :)

the issue with yogurt is that some have a higher amount of sugars. Please watch for the lower sugar contents, such as 5 mg sugars; some have up to 30 mg per container. Mycobacterium, bacteria thrive in a high sugar medium.

Also, some mess can throw off our normal sugar levels, i.e., prednisone which may be needed occasionally for flare ups.

Live Probiotic pills are the best choice which can be taken regularly, purchased at any local drug store or GNC.:)

Yes I should watch the sugar content in the yogurt. I usually choose the plain yogurt, and mix it with fruit smoothies.
Live prebiotic pill is great choice too :)
