Bronchiectasis
Hi, I got diagnosed with bronchiectasis in December after having problems with my breathing / coughing for years. I take 1 inhaler a day with a pill at night and complete airway clearances once a day. I’m 26 and do regular exercise biking 30 mins a day and completing 10k steps as well as occasionally running. I did play football etc but have had to stop due to breathing difficulty. My peak flow was originally at 500-550, but now is at 650-700. However at times I still find it hard to breathe when relaxing etc and struggle to breathe automatically at times. Is this normal? After reading many articles etc I’m very worried / anxious about my bronchiectasis getting worse as I get older if it will affect work, my social life and relationships. Does bronchiectasis always get worse as you get older and is there anyway around it? Many thanks

Liam,
Hello! Welcome to the site. I am glad you found us- you are not alone on the journey. It sounds like you are doing the right things- exercising, airway clearance, medication. Good nutrition, stress management, good self care are also important. I assume that your pulmonologist is well experienced with younger Bronchiectasis patients?
We have two upcoming events, which are pinned on the activity site. The webinar will be recorded if you are unable to attend. The coffee socials are held on a monthly basis.
Howdy Liam, I was your age 38 years ago. I've been in communication with bronchiectasis patients all around the globe for 18 years. I can tell you there isn't a way to predict if an individual's future condition will worsen, stay the same or improve. Yes sir, I said improve. I know a number of NCFBE people who experienced improvement. Including me.
NCFBE is an acronym for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis
But even before the status of my bronchiectasis changed, my social life and relationships were not negatively impacted. Nor my work. I worked full time for over three decades. What position did you play in football ? I was a tailback. Every time I got up off the bench, the coach would say... "get your tail back on that bench".
