Bronchiectasis coughing&daily CPAP
Newbie here. Diagnosed last month with Bronchiectasis and severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I want to learn and I think many of you have already walked where I’m likely headed. First night last night on my CPAP machine. My Bronchiectasis not riled up right now but that could quickly change. I’d like to know how anyone coughing uncontrollably for a month or a few months due to Bronchiectasis can possibly wear a CPAP machine at night?
Eventually I’ll ask my pulmonologist’s advice on this. But the Pulmonologist told me a couple weeks ago that during my sleep study 148x per hour my airways closed or partially closed. He’s concerned my lungs are small....(note: didn’t know lungs came in small, medium and large). So, when I do see him next, he is not going to recommend I discontinue the CPAP, I’m quite sure.
Any of you have both of these conditions? What are you doing about your daily CPAP when the nonstop bad coughing comes to visit?

Hello! Welcome to the site. You will find over 130 questions previously answered on this site on the left side of the activity board.
I do not have sleep apnea but hopefully other members will respond to your inquiry. I wish you the best with your new CPAP machine; they report that these machines make a big difference in energy levels since you sleep better.
Please keep us posted
Hi and welcome,
I have bronchiectasis, and I find a cpap helps me gef a good nites sleep, with coughing only at its worst when I am in few days of pneumonia.. i sleep on a minimumof 2 pilows, more duringthe pneumonia.
I was switched to a bipap last year after getting a new sleep study, I think the forced air during both breathing cycles makes a difference. I also use a heated tube.
You WILL get through this, keep the questions coming and trust your instincts!
Gladys,
Hello! Welcome to the site. Thank you for sharing your experience with the group. Have you tried the plastic bed supports to raise the head of the bed 30 degrees? You can buy then at Bed Bath and Beyond for less than $20.00. This will add to the comfort that the two pillows offer

Gladys,
Hello! Under the bed frame. They are gray plastic devices which look like a flower pot. It really helped me in the past. I hope that you find them:)
