Bronchoscopy
Hi everyone,
I am having PFT MTC and Bronchoscope next week, I just saw the Bronchscope on the orders.
Now I’m scared from googling bronchoscope. Is it very frightening and uncomfortable while having the procedure or after?
I have been on z-pak, then, doxycycline, then amoxiclav in the past four weeks. Wonder why bronchoscope when it may be dangerous
Thank you

Wish you the best on the bronchoscopy! People do have them all the time and do fine. Mine wasn't so fine but won't get into it.
Hasty Retreat,
Respiratory Patients undergo bronchoscopies all the time. Yes, any test can be anxiety producing. It is important to have trust , that you feel that you are in good hands of your doctor.

Hi Hasty. You might consider asking your doctor why the bronchoscope was ordered, and if there are alternatives that could be considered, and if it needs to happen now instead of later. You would be sedated. Not a high-risk procedure, and it doesn't last very long, but all invasive procedures have some risks. Ultimately it's your choice to make. Good luck.
Yes, every procedure has risks- from the most minimal invasive procedure to major surgery. A discussion with your doctor about the best diagnostic methods will assist you in making the right decision.
I’ve had so many of these. When I was first diagnosed in the 80,s my pulmonary used to do a bronchoscopy every 6 weeks to take the mucus out. They didn’t know about airway clearance then and this clearly didn’t work for my lungs…just traumatized me.
But honestly they are over quickly and they will make you comfortable. You don’t have to be brave. Tell them you are nervous. Let them know to do everything to make you feel comfortable. Good luck!
Maggie,
So glad that treatment has improved over time. K
Thank you for easing my worries to each and everyone for your replies and links.
Lots of Love
Hasty Retreat,
You are most welcome! This is why we are here….
All the best w the procedure. Please keep us posted. One day at a time.
Hi, I'm new so am reading everything on BNTM360 - Know this Q was posted 6 mos ago, but will share my experience. The procedure itself was easy for me since I was under anesthesia. Nothing to be scared about.
The worst part for me was the coughing after the procedure that lasted thru the next day. The doc told me to expect it but didn't know how intense it would be. At the hospital after the procedure, I was given a disposable inhaler after nurse observed me struggling. If there's a next time I would ask if possible to have on hand at home to help clear lungs after procedure.
Hope it all went well for you!
