Cleaning nebulizer/airway clearance devices
I’m waiting for the April social notes but am really struggling with the sanitizing piece of this twice daily ritual. Right now I’m boiling at home 5-10 minutes. Air dry. Does anyone use cold sanitizing procedures? Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or perhaps chlorhexidine? How often do you change your solutions if so? I just feel nervous about any future infections. I just started Azithromycin & will add Rifampin this evening & Ethambutol next week; MAC cultures positive after a bilobectomy 5/3/23. Thanks for input

Hello! Please scroll down in the link below to find a link on cleaning nebulizers. Wishing you the best as you add on another antibiotic.
Thanks! I’ve read all this stuff & finally found a COPD document that says don’t reuse cold solutions used to clean. That made it easy to decide on boiling. As a newly in this realm, it is all about figuring everything out. Thank you for you help.
You are most welcome! There are many different methods of cleaning the equipment. The most important thing is that you do not clean it with tap water- boiled water for at least 10 minutes.
