Clear ct scans with bronchiectasis
Does anyone that has bronchiectasis find that with an effective lung clearance technique that they have been able to achive a clean CT scan? Should that be the goal of therapy and is it possible? I'm going to have a bronchoscopy to suction some out and was wondering if it's realistic to think that it's possible to keep the reoccurrence of mucus to a minimum with good airway clearance techniques? Thanks

I use a vibrating vest, Albuterol, and sodium chloride for the nebulizer. I am told to do it twice a day. I use Breztri after each treatment. I also am taking Bactrim. I am doing much better than before as I used to have pneumonia frequently at first. I also use an Aerobika and its holding chamber for the medicine and take deep slow breaths.

Hi PWW. This is a good question! The amount of mucus pooling can fluctuate on your CT scan (and chest X-rays). As you acquire more CT scans throughout the years, the amount of mucus may vary based on various of factors (seasons, allergens, inflammation, etc.).
Radiologists are unlikely to see a "clean CT" scan even after a therapeutic bronchoscopy. Not to mention because this is a chronic diagnosis, the presence of bronchiectasis will always be there. As you probably know, bronchiectasis is diagnosed when there is structural widening of the bronchial tubes.

PWW,
Hello! Less mucus in our airways is the primary goal. We can work on achieving this goal by doing regular airway clearance, exercise, normal saline nebulizers as needed, adequate hydration, good sleep hygiene, good nutrition.
We may never get a perfect score on a Cat Scan but we can certainly work on lessening the procession of the disease. Wishing you the very best with your goal.
Hi PWW.......I do Airway Clearance--exercise--nebulize--hydrate--sleep well and eat well. It works. I'm out hiking or at the gym almost every day. My scans are not clear. There is some bronchiectasis showing and it probably always will. I concentrate on what I can do. Stay as active as you can and good luck
Das23,
Thank you for inspiring others. Exercise is key for both our physical and emotional health.
