Daliresp, Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Hi, all--

Has anyone else experienced delayed side effects from Daliresp? After 4 months on Daliresp I experienced a new and most egregious side effect, and my doctor took me off the med. I had some side effects at the beginning, but they either subsided or I could live with them. I had been wondering if Daliresp had "done its job" and if it was time to stop it since I am doing much better (and I'm not thrilled about taking a biologic med). I guess I will see. Fortunately, my bronchiectasis was caught much earlier than most and I don't have NTM.

Has anyone gone through pulmonary rehab and did it help? I am wondering if I should ask about this treatment.

Hello Oklahoman!
I have not tried daliresp either. Hopefully, another member will respond who has tried it. I have gone through a 3 month pulmonary rehabilitation program years ago ; I really do believe it assisted me to regain strength and to learn the basics of pulmonary care.
What are your specific goals of a pulmonary rehabilitation program?
Check out a few different programs if you can- some are more comprehensive than others.

Hi Oklawoman,
I've been on Daliresp for years and the worst of the side effects went away after 3-6 months. I continued to have a little weight loss, but nothing drastic. But that weight loss might have been the NTM infection. No return of side effects.

Last fall I was having problems affording the Daliresp, so my Pulmo and I decided I could go off it, and we'd see if it was really making a difference. It was! When I went back on it last winter, the only side effect I've had is rapid weight loss. Well, that, and my oxygen saturation is at a whopping 95% again!

Kandy,

Yes, we all handle medications differently. What maybe be magical for one may cause havoc on another

Thanks for your input, ladies. I seem to be doing just fine without the Daliresp. I have more energy, am sleeping MUCH better and have an appetite. Egregious issues gone.

I increased my exercise to get strong and to avoid regaining lost weight from Daliresp--used my recumbent trike for the first time in forever. I have a magnetic pedal exerciser to use with our Total Gym, so I can pedal recumbently. Using the Total Gym for arm circuits. Doing planks and incline pushups. Using Praise Moves (Christian yoga-type exercise) Gold (for seniors). Walking on our property (acreage). I exercise 5 days/week, about 30 minutes or so (longer on trike).

I think I don't need pulmonary rehab, as I didn't have any respiratory problems with exercise.
I did have increased coughing after being outside, but that is most likely my allergies setting off asthma, leading to coughing. I hadn't been coughing much at all for awhile.

I am glad I quit work. I don't have to worry about getting sick from being in hospitals with students. I have so many hobbies I can enjoy. I enjoy being at home with my DH. We have many activities together and separately. We can travel more. I plan to begin Social Security since my benefit will not increase any more and I am over 62.

I appreciate this group and the website. Good information from both.

Blessings to all.

Oklawowan,

Hello! It does not sound as if you need pulmonary rehab based on your current established exercise routine.

The other pieces of rehabilitation include nutrition and stress management.

I wish you the best in enjoying your retirement and keeping as healthy as possible.

Exercise and other preventive measures, such as infection control assist us in doing so.:
