Diagnosis
Can a diagnosis of bronchiectasis and NTM be made based on a chest x-ray alone?
- Thanks!

Annie,
No, the diagnosis of both cannot be made on a chest x ray. A sputum culture must be done for the NTM ; a high resolution cat scan should be done to determine more accurate information on Bronchiectasis.
Thanks! That's what I thought. Was thrown off and puzzled why the radiologist wrote that on his report of my recent chest x-ray. Ugh.
Annie,
He may see a pattern on the chest x ray that is seen commonly in Bronchiectasis/ NTM patients. The most accurate is the high resolution cat scan.
