Is it possible to get Disability assistance through the government due to NTM and /or Bronchiectasis?
Has anyone gone through this process?

Dear Pamela,
Hello! You will be able to review several responses under the questions and answer section, above on the left. Applying for disablity is a time consuming process which requires detailed medical evaluations. I wish you the very best!
We applied for SSI for our daughter with Bronchiectasis. She was approved medically, but she did not meet income requirements. Because of that she cannot receive the insurance that comes along with that. I can tell you that during our appointment our case worker said he had never seen someone so prepared. I made sure to have all her specialists write a letter acknowledging that her condition hinders her daily activities and that this disease will not resolve but only progress. I also made sure to bring all her hospital records(because there are certain time guidelines to be approved), all procedures and surgery notes, all x ray and CT scan (This is a must), all labs, previous office visits, future appoints, all physician; lab; hospital; clinic; pharmacy and DME phone numbers, fax numbers, and addresses, list of all meds past and present for the last 12 months, therapy notes, and all DME records. The more information you can provide in an organized manner the better. I also had made them copies of all this information prior to our appointment so they wouldn't just pick and choose what to use. She ended up being medically approved within 2 days of our appointment but again due to our income(which is only $98 over the monthly limit) she does not receive a check or the insurance but if something changes financially the benefits will kick in immediately. One last thing......be prepared to appeal any denial! And if denied continue to send in updates to your case frequently. I wish you the best of luck!

Hello! I am so sorry to hear of your current frustrations, challenges. Yes, SSI is always financially based. I agree w Oklahoman to check into the state community health program s, aka - Medicaid for coverage. Perhaps, your local congressman office, an aide can assist you w more available resources within your community. Also, many municipalities have a part time social worker on staff who may be able to assist you. Please keep us posted

Hello! I agree that the current medical system has many flaws which are so unfair to families like yours.
I was hoping this was to be resolved with Obamacare...
Did you think of asking your local social worker about other local resourcespossibilities?
