Do others have recurring flareups in the form of pleurisy?
My most frequent exacerbations show up as pleuritic pain, sometimes accompanied by extra lung congestion, sometimes accompanied by fever. Usually 1 or 2 days of extra tiredness. I generally rest, apply heat, take Advil, maybe extra Mucinex. But I just wonder if this is typical or more unusual to get pleurisy in this situation.
I'm not sure if this is caused by bronchiectasis or NTM, or maybe both have the potential to cause it. I finished treatment for NTM last summer, but I realize it can return.
Thanks for any feedback.

Hello! Pleurisy can be caused by an infection. I have not heard of many others developing pleurisy frequently over the years. Below is a link on the basics of pleurisy . It is basic education for all members to understand what pleurisy is; I hope that this helps.

I have similar outbreaks and situations and I frustrate my pulmonary doctor who assures me my lungs don't feel pain- that it's the lining, or pleurisy. But it hurts!!! So why the fever and malaise too right? Can't explain. I too have been treatedin the past for NTM. I also get spontaneous partial lung collapses and those DO hurt, so I have to go in and have the pain checked out.
I'm in the same camp, just finished up antibiotics for an infection and i went to the doctor he said he doesn't think I'm infected but I have pleurisy now as I write this.

Lorn,
So sorry to read about your discomfort. Only you, the patient feels the pain that you are experiencing.
What is your doctor planning on doing for the pleurisy

I have this same problem and was told pleurisy twice a few years ago. Now when it starts I get short of breath. I agree, very painful.
I am experiencing pleurisy right now in my right lung. Hurts to take a deep breath. Also, short of breath and slight fever. My pulmonologist did not seem concerned. He told me to take Tylenol and keep him updated. I am concerned. It is scary.
Same with my pulmonologist. Didn’t seem to concerned. Scary for sure!! Hope you feel much better very soon.
