Does one need a pulmonologist specialized in bronchiectasis for treatment?
I have a rare eye disease and found that I needed to be with a doctor who specialized in the disease and did lots of transplants a week. The website I was on provided a list of doctors and also the experience people had with them. Is the same true if one has been diagnosed with bronchiectasis? Can a regular pulmonologist handle treatment?

Having suzie40, I think that having a pulmonologist that care about your health holistically is great. If your doctor is specialized in bronchiectasis, it will be great too. We need doctors who want to invest their time and their knowledge to assess our health holistically.
Thank you Made. I was questioning because, although I really like my doctor and he seems caring, the last time I was there he said it was okay to have pneumonia twice a year. I guess I disagree in that my last bout of the illness took three rounds of antibiotics to get over it and six months to feel like myself again.
Hello suzie40! Yes I agree it is a little bit odd when your doctor said "it is okay to have pneumonia twice a year". I also can understand why the doctor told that. I've been diagnosed with bronchiectasis for almost three years now. Unfortunately I get exacerbation in every three months. Having bronchiectasis means we are vulnerable to infection.
It is obvious that we need to maintain our immune system, but it is not an easy task. Eat foods with lots of good nutrient, lots of vitamin. Exercise and moving our body. Sunlight for vitamin D. Flu shot. Clearing our lungs from mucus in order to prevent the bacteria growth.
Positive mind, low stress -> it will make us stronger.
We need a doctor who take care of our health holistically. We need a pulmonologist who are not just focused on antibiotics, but also about how we live and survive with this illness.

Thanks for answering back. I have been doing everything I can to keep away from the antibiotics and that means an infection. This last time took too long to feel good again.
