Establish care with pulmonologist?

Hello, I was diagnosed with MAC and bronchiectasis, and referred to an Infectious Disease doctor. But I do not have a pulmonologist, which seems like it would be appropriate for bronchiectasis.

Is it typical to not have a pulmonologist? And if I should have one, what do I need to do or say to be referred to one?

Also, should I be tested for any specific co-morbidities? What determines if doctors will recommend testing?

thank you for any insights, Laur

Hello! A Pulmonogist know the most about lung diseases; he/ she will work with the Infectious Disease doctor.

Acid Reflux is one comorbiditiy that is common among patients.

Your PMD should be able to refer you to a pulmonologist- make sure that they are experienced with NTM/ Bronchiectasis.

Hi, L.B.R.!

My advice is extremely close to Katie's: I definitely recommend seeing a pulmonologist with experience with bronchiectasis/NTM. They will be the ones who will be able to help you with your mucus clearance or other pulmonary concerns. It's always helpful for your healthcare providers to work together for your care, rather than independently.

I agree wthat your healthcare providers must work together as a team than to work independently.
