Exercise is better for all of us weather a lung disease or not. Us with the lung disease need to keep moving for our lungs. Most can maintain the lung volume by keeping exercising and if you do get sick the length of being sick maybe shorter than usual if you had not been exercising. As they say, "if u don't use it you loose it!!" It is been said the best exercise is the treadmill. If you can't do that anything can help as long as your moving. There are several exercises online to help those that can't due treadmills for some reason or not the chair exercises help. Can goods using for arm lifts help also. There are a lot of things around the house you can use, you don't need to go out and buy things.

There has been some research showing that yoga is beneficial for individuals with lung disease -- has anyone tried that?

I tried yoga and I really like it. The breathing and the movement in yoga makes me want to cough and release mucus. Beside clearing my lungs, yoga also build body strength. I don't do yoga now because I don't remember how to do it.

Are there any yoga studios around you where you could go refresh your practice? The benefits of yoga are vast and like you said, the movement and breath work do so many positive things for us.

Hi Kandy sorry for the late reply. Currently I don't use oxygen now. I didn't get short of breath during yoga, but doing yoga makes me want to cough and release mucus. I think we can do yoga and wear oxygen at the same time.

The exercise that I like to do on daily basis is walking. I usually spent 20 - 30 minutes on walking. I find that walking is an enjoyable exercise. I think this exercise helps me to clear my lung; I usually cough and release mucus during exercise.

This month I will continue my daily walking exercise. I hope I can increase the frequency of my walking exercise. I also add a little bit of yoga in my exercise. :)

Walking for me has to be very slow. Fortunately I have two very slow, pokey mini wiener dogs so I get lots of rests along the way. I've found horse back riding works better than anything. It's amazing for strengthening the entire body from head to toe and as long as I'm riding in a manner that doesn't require a lot of deep breathing it's proven to be the best thing I could have done for my health overall.

Walking with dogs is lovely because we have companion along the way. Good for our health and makes the dogs happy as well. Horse back riding must be a fun exercise. I've never done it before but I'm sure it takes a lot of energy and build strength.
