Has anyone used Acapella therapy?
If you have used Acapella therapy for bronchiectasis, have you found it useful? I understand they are not really able to be cleaned, so how often do you replace the unit?

I'm going to let the community speak to how useful the device is for them, but I was able to find a helpful link that describes how to clean the Acapella thoroughly. Hope this helps! https://www.nationaljewish.org/conditions/medicati...

Hello! One device works for some patients, another is preferred by other patients. I suggest that you try another device if interested. I use the flute which is good for lower airways. It uses replacement chords, very easy to clean. Hopefully, the directions on cleaning posted by Christina will help you. Please keep us posted on your decisions
Thank you Ksmiles123. I'll check out the flute.
You are most welcome!:
Howdy DAJ, I've experimented with an Acapella and a Cornet.
Both were gifts, so I didn't have to cough up any money for either one.
The results were not what I expectorated.
But they do work for other bronchiectasis patients I know.
Thanks, laff4evr, love your humor!
Laff4ever,
Thank you sooo much for the belly laugh. I wrote poems about coughing years ago when first diagnosed... will have to find them.
We need a sense of humor to keep on keeping on when dealing with a chronic disorder. Have a giggly day! Katie
I have used the Acapella and the Aerobika. I prefer the Aerobika because I can use it inline with my nebulizer and accomplish two goals at the same time.
I have used and still do use both Acapella and Aerobica. Both are useful in setting up waves of motion in the lungs to help move the mucus up. However I have found it was very useful to get checked a few times by the lung physios to make sure I was using it properly. Very easy to get into bad habits by yourself. With regard to cleaning I boil both up for 10 minutes in a large pan with all my nebulizing equipment every few weeks. Just make sure there is enough water because I wrecked my first Acapella because it touched the bottom and stuck. Fortunately the hospital i attend regularly has made new equipment available to me.
Hello! I think it is good to have two different devices- a change of device may prompt us to be compliant longer
I would suggest cleaning the
aerobica more frequently. I just looked at the directions- it recommends a good cleaning on a weekly basis. I wish that these devices cleaned themselves….lol.

I agree totally. It is a royal p I a and time consuming to set up the cleaning process for all of the devices we use in a regular basis- Nasal wash bottle, nebulizer cups, aerobica, acapella , etc.
we set ourselves up for further infections if the device is not cleaned.
Flossing teeth is much easier - no preparation and cleanup needed.
Yes, it is hard but we must get to a point of acceptance that we can and will do these tedious tasks since it prevents congestion, keeps us well. It took me quite some time to actually be compliant with my medical regime.
Good luck with all. :) Katie
Hello!
I've been using the Acapella for several years now. I often use it as a replacement for The Vest, but it's a great addition to it. I found that after using the vest, use the acapella and it works great.
As for replacements, I honestly haven't replaced my original one yet. I did buy extras right off Amazon though.
