Hi Everyone, My Mom was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis a year ago. I need some answers.
I am wondering if they took a sputum sample to check what bus she may have? I was diagnosed 2014 but have asthma and emphysema.I am sure my bronchiectasis was caised from many lung infections. Xopenex neb followed by 7% hypertonic saline then go to the vest airway clearing system did really work for me. I do the vest set st 14 for 20 min. I then do brovana followed by spiriva then budensonide with Flovent inhaler ending this regiment. I love the saline mucinex doesn't Mywork for me but ppl do good with it. I hope this helps. Mine is good for a few then back to more again. My pulmo started me on zithromax 250 mg 3 times a week.

Catherine,
Hello! Welcome to the site. Does your mom currently have a lung infection? Is she on antibiotics? When did she her pulmonologist?
Does she takes mucinex or guaffessin ?, an expectorant?

I agree with Ksmiles - first make sure she isn't having an exascerbation and may need antibiotics. I am younger, and I can experience fatigue/body aches and breathlessness or bouts of coughing or more phlem randomly. When I work in the yard, I stop frequently to catch my breath. Icheck my heart rate and it may be at a low intensity exertion, but my breathing feels like I just sprinted a mile. Regarding nebulizing sodium Chloride, don't you want to break it up? I always feel better coughing as much up I can and hope for that with each treatment.
Regardless, if she has suddenly gotten worse, she may need antibiotics and should get a sputum sample. good luck!
Hello! I wholeheartedly agree w Barbfit. For some patients , Periodically, upon exertion you may experience shortness of breath. This is not definitely a sign of infection but a symptom of Bronciectasis. We all learn to know our bodies over time.
