Hi. I'm curious if anyone who has bronchiectasis is on calcium channel blockers?
I read that calcium channel blockers can cause silent GERD symptoms such as coughing and that this is correlated with respiratory diseases such as bronchiectasis (BE). My dad has been on calcium channel blockers and has had a severe cough and now diagnosed with BE.

That is interesting. How long was your dad on the calcium channel blocker before he was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis? Has anyone else noticed an increase in cough if they take these? Would love to hear a docs perspective here.

My dad was on both an ACE inhibitor and calcium channel blocker for quite a long time. He has been dealing with a chronic cough on and off for quite a while as well. ACE inhibitors cause coughing so we removed that and the coughing subsided but then started again. Did some research and saw that calcium channel blockers can weaken the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus causing acid to spray up into the throat. This may cause heartburn or silent reflux in which coughing throat clearing are main symptoms. Then when he was recently diagnosed with bronchoecstasis I saw correlations with reflux.
Here is the correct link to the article "Airway reflux as a cause of respiratory disease" that I just sent:

Karen,
Thank you for the great articles. There is so much more research needed in this field. Hopefully, more will be conducted and published within the near future
