How do you handle public coughing and spitting?

I cough and spit out mucus a lot. Sometimes this will happen when I'm out, say in a store or restaurant. I try to cough/spit into a tissue as discreetly as possible, but it is pretty gross. Any suggestions?

Shardan,

Yes, I agree with you that coughing up into a tissue sounds pretty grotesque to many. However, it is sooo important to expect Pate the sputum. I feel that many of us have gotten better at this over time, managing it more politely and discreetly.

We must put our health first. Friends, family will learn to understand, accept. It is important to communicate with others such as co- workers who you see regularly why you do what you do.

As far as strangers- your health and well being come first. It is very likely that you will not come into contact with the stranger again. Expectorating, breathing better, getting more oxygen is the goal.

Let us know how you are doing over time.

Thanks for your support. So far, everyone I know has been very understanding. I am self-conscious about it.

Hi shardan1. I also have this condition too. So many mucus; during group discussion, walking around, etc. I carry tissues along the way. I prefer to cough and release mucus in an empty bathroom to be honest. I don't want to try to hold back the cough (I did it in the past). Its better for me to just cough.. with tissue, plastic bag (sorry), etc. Have a day :)
