MAC, Bronchiectasis and CPAP
I just learned I have sleep apnea and am being fitted with a CPAP. What do I need to know about using CPAP as it relates to my MAC and bronchiectasis?
It seems like disinfecting may be a problem. I don't think CPAP mask, tubing, etc can be boiled like my nebulizer and Aerobika. How do bronchiectasis patients sterilize their CPAP?
The CPAP has a humidifier which creates a mist. Will I have to buy Sterile Water from a Medical Supply so I don't introduce more bacteria into my lungs?
Thanks, Dana

Hello! Instructions should come with the equipment. Yes, I would expect the instructions to suggest that you use distilled or boiled water.
I have never used this equipment .Below is a site which may offer some helpful tips.

Hi, I have used CPAP and now have a BiPAP, which makes huge difference in quality of sleep! Try to get a heated tube from the vendor, this helps too. It has taken years to get the right mask with no leaks. I use distilled water, which u can easily get at drug store or pharmacy. I change filter on the machine monthly, and clean the reservoir with vinegar/water solution and a toothbrush or in dishwasher weekly. I also use "soclean" machine regularly. All this quickly becomes a routine. Good luck!
I have sleep apnea and I use something similar to a mouthguard that is especially made to fit your mouth. There is an upper and lower part to it I clean them in denture cleaner and brush them after rinsing. It cost about $3000 Australian dollars a few years ago, I think it's called a mandabil or similar
