Nebulized Tobramycin

Has anyone gone through the nebulized tobramycin treatment that is being suggested by my doctor.

From what I can find on the web, the 28 days on, 28 days off, and then 28 days of treatment seem to be relatively safe, with possible ear and kidney complications.

Oasisman,Hello! I was on tobramycin years ago and did not experience any hearing or kidney issues. Make sure you have baseline hearing checks and regular follow up audiology appointments. They will order lab work to check your kidney function. Please report any changes to your doctor in a timely manner if you should experience any. Many patients are able to tolerate this drug. Each person has a different capacity to tolerate different drugs. Please keep us posted.

Hi oasisman! One of the biggest things with TOBI is that it can be really irritating for some people and cause coughing or wheezing, so we recommend taking albuterol or some other bronchodilator first. Some people have reported ringing in the ears when taking TOBI.

You were absolutely right, you should take it for 28 days, then take a break for 28 days.

Have a great day!
