Pulse Oximeter Recommendations
Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable, over-the-counter Pulse Oximeter?
I was diagnosed with mild bronchiectasis last year. As everyone can relate, this diagnosis has made the pandemic especially difficult. I've been extremely careful about any exposures to Covid. However, in these challenging times, my pulmonologist recommended getting a Pulse Oximeter.
I've seen brand names such as Zacurate Pro Series, Oxiline, Insignia, Choicemed and AccuMed. I would appreciate recommendations from anyone who has purchased a Pulse Oximeter. Which brand do you use? How accurate? How easy to use? What was the price? Thank you!

Hello! I bought mine years ago on Amazon for about $25.00, it was manufactured by Health Connections. It has worked well over the past years
Hello Mary,
Any consumer pulse oximeter is not going to be as accurate as the fancy one at the doctor office, but all you need is one that gives you a relative value (are your numbers higher or lower than yesterday?) I have one from Walmart and one from Amazon. They both work fine and cost less than $30 each. Take your new consumer oximeter to the doctor's office and compare your results with the professionals, just to make sure your new tool is somewhat accurate. Best wishes to you.

I think most of the pulse oximeters on the market are fairly accurate. Many of them read within a percent or two of the pricey hospital brands. The only thing I've noticed is that their speed to calculate SpO2 can be slower than the brands used in hospitals. My recommendation is use it for tracking (as mentioned above), keep fresh batteries in it for accurate reads, and realize that so many things can affect its accuracy. (Cold hands, nail polish, poor circulation etc.)
