Puzzled. Am I normal

Hi, my name is Elaine and I have the mildest form of Cylindrical Bronchiectasis.

I am breathless every day on exursion (fine when doing nothing). Often wheezy. Lately I have been bringing mucus up only once a day or not at all instead of numerous times a day.

I am waiting to do a Pulmonary Rehab course and I just wondered if the way I am is normal when you have this disease. I had a Cat Scan yesterday and am waiting to here results.

I read you should use good days to do chores etc but I don't have good days and I'm not even bad.

Hello Elaine ,

The cat scan should reveal what is going on . Additionally, a sputum culture would assist with the diagnosis. I hope that you hear back from your doctor today- please keep us posted

Has your dr ever said anything about pulmonary rehab? That is very good for us and our lungs besides body. Ask for referral may help you.

I have completed the pulmonary rehab program which I really enjoyed.  It really only consisted of exercises at the hospital gym.

Hi Elaine, do you have allergies or any other condition that might cause the breathlessness? I just got diagnosed two weeks ago. I'm only breathless when I walk and talk at the same time. Hoping it doesn't get worse.

No allergies that I'm aware of.  I have had asthma since age 7 but I can't say it's been much of a problem,  now when I wheeze I' m not sure if it's asthma or bronchiectasis so I take Ventolin.  Even though I have had bronchiectasis for about 4 years it only got bad during last summer's bushfires.   Now when we go for a walk sometimes I can complete the walk and back but often I need to sit on every seat along the way or my husband brings the car when I have gone as far as I can go.  Things that leave me breathless:  hanging washing out, and housework but I'm fine when sitting doing nothing.  (which I don't do all the time)

Tomorrow I start week six of a Pulmonary Rehabalitation program (8 week program). I am very good on the exercise bike, the treadmill etc. and I often walk with my husband on the beach or around lakes. Sometimes I am good, other times it is a struggle and I have to sit down many times. Housework, making beds etc. leaves me really really breathless & I can hear my heart beating. Is this how it is for everyone who has the mildest form

Pulmonary rehab is the best thing we can do. I been many years but in February was told to stay home due to 18 cases of covid in my county. So I layed around been lazy not exercising and I now sure do know my lungs have gotten worse. I do have a old hard treadmill and floor stepper am trying to exercise with its very hard. The pulmonary coordinator asked me if I wanted to come back now and we are very high now with covid. I said no and with winter coming I do not want to fight the freezing weather and snow. Maybe spring well see how it goes then.

Kandy,
Hello! I hope that you can find the energy, motivation to get on the treadmill and floor stepper on a regular basis.  A small amount of exercise is better than no exercise.  Wishing you the very best!
