Reduced lung function
So I’ve had Bronchiectasis for years with just some coughing. But this year in addition to 2 flares I get short of breath when I’m not flaring. My breathing is clear otherwise.. The shortness of breath has seemed to come on quickly. Has anyone else experienced this. ?

Hello! Welcome to the site. Have you had a chest X-ray or cat scan recently?
Thanks so much for asking. I have several Ct scans. One was this past August. Nothing new showed up except that I have an aortic valve leak that has increased a bit. (That was found on an echocardiogram). So that’s why I’m curious. No major changes to my lungs except I feel my Bronchiectasis more. But my aerobic abilities are way down.
Jeffrey,
When was the last time that you had a sputum culture and sensitivity

I’ve never had one!
I would strongly recommend that you discuss this with your doctor. It is a way to see what is going in your lungs
Thank you. Yeah I guess that’s the best thing to do.
I would like to add that albuterol with a nebulizer brings a lot of calmness to my cough.
Has anyone heard of Bronchiectasis Flares causing myocarditis? I ask because it's been suggested by one of my doctors recently that it caused mine.
Any medical issues, especially a respiratory issue will make your heart work harder than usual. The stress of a flare plus your heart working harder may contribute to existent cardiac issues.
How long have you had myocarditis?
I hope that you feel better soon.
I was found to have myocarditis in December of 2021, 2 months after my first Bronchiectasis flare. And I have noticed in the 2 flares since then a heart rate a little over 100 bpm is an early sign a flare is coming. My myocarditis creates arrhythmias which was only recently explained to me. Makes me a little concerned about what my next flare may do to my heart.
But I am not certain when myocarditis happened. The flare was the only time I had anything severe happen that could explain it.

Thank you and exactly. I'll read thru the materials on the blog. Airways clearance is just what I'm having trouble with for the first time.
Jeffrey,
Perhaps a different airway clearance device will work for you if your current device isn’t working for you?

Regular Airway Clearance. Interesting. New to me so I'm researching.
Did you do a sputum culture? Infection could be a cause, according to my pulmonologist.
Yes, a sputum culture and sensitivity is the important part of an accurate diagnosis.
