What are some of the preparations that you do in order to make traveling easier or safer? What challenges with travel have you faced in the past?

I used to travel from SD to my daughters in Mn be 7 hrs or more. I being on oxygen then too had to plan enough for the trip. I would take several c tanks and upon arriving at my daughters Lincare had scheduled my oxygen at her home for he duration of my stay. It was excellent service. No problem they would renew my tanks for coming back home.

Two types of equipment have helped make travel a lot easier for me: a battery-operated nebulizer, and an inflatable wedge pillow (for postural drainage).

Thank you Christina! A lot of fabulous tips for before, during travels. A thorough checklist, including these tips is more important than many other lists we make while preparing to travel. Some form of Airway Clearance is so important while you are away.
Medical equipment, such as your nebulizer and vibrating vest, travel free on airlines. To qualify, have a written prescription for each device with you, and do not pack anything else in the same bag. Check the airline website in advance for additional rules. Be sure to pad the equipment to reduce the odds of it getting broken. Equipment manufacturers prefer that you take the items as carry-on, but I find it exhausting to haul them to the plane.

Hi Mari305,
I checked Spirit Airlines website. They have standard language stating that properly packaged and documented medical equipment is allowed on board as checked baggage without charge. If you see specific comments about nebulizers not being included, please let us know.
