Urgently Looking for an NTM Expert in Lexington (Kentucky)
Hi. I'm posting my very first question on this blog.
My family member has been just diagnosed with Mycobacterium "Abscessus" Complex by a pulmonologist. From what I've read, I understand that it is extremely important to find an experienced NTM expert who can create an individualized treatment plan.
Can anyone recommend any experienced NTM expert in Lexington, Kentucky? If necessary, I would not mind taking my family member to a good NTM expert in a different state, so any recommendation of a doctor would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi NM!
In addition to the resource Ksmiles123 posted, you might start your search by looking at Infectious Disease Specialist doctors in your area. They often treat NTM patients. I was lucky and my pulmonologist linked me up with my infectious disease specialist. When I mention his name to other area docs, they always say, "Oh, he's the best! You're in good hands." Good luck in your search.

Thank you so much for your information. I'm really happy to know there are other people out there who are on the same boat as my family member. Happy Holidays!

NM,
You are welcome! You, your family are not alone on this journey. Have a pleasant holiday season.
I also have NTM absessus, which is difficult to treat. I read that it is helpful to go to a place that has a lot of experience in this. I went to National Jewish Health in Denver in November. I feel so assured at the extent of their knowledge and experience .

Lindy, thank you for taking the time to reply! I got in touch with a support group in Louisville and they also told us that National Jewish Health in Denver is the best in the nation for treating NTM abscessus. We went through a telephone interview with NJH and we are hoping to get an appointment within the next couple of months. Again, thank you for caring about us!

We already had an telephone interview with NJH and we will hopefully get an appointment within the next couple of months. Thank you again for caring about us!

@NM I learned so much about NTM while at National Jewish Health in Denver. I learned what I can do myself to live with it. I had over 25 appointments in a short time . I am fully confident that I am getting the best care available. You will be pleased and assured. The staff was very professional . On NJH website there is a course for families which is a taped lecture series on living with NTM . I pray for Gods strength and peace for you.

Lindy, thank you again for your kind words. I didn't know there was a taped lecture series for people with NTM and their families. I will definitely take a look. Thanks to the advice from you and everyone else here, I have calmed down a lot more than I was right before Christmas. Thank you!
