I have bronchiectasis. What is the consensus on getting the new Covid vaccine that came out in September. I read several articles that found the vaccine gave lung problems to some individuals.

Thank you.

Hello! I'm not sure I count as "consensus," but I can give you my view as a respiratory therapist and public health advocate. I looked for research on how existing COVID vaccines might impact someone with bronchiectasis, and I found one peer-reviewed article published in 2022. It found that there were 88 reported cases of various kinds of what's known as "hypersensitivity pneumonitis" (a kind of inflammation in the lungs that can be caused by medications or chemicals) out of 101,809,021 administered vaccine doses (in Japan). There are a handful of other articles out there about the vaccine causing some symptom flares in people with pre-existing breathing problems, but the rates of those also seem pretty low.

As with any medication, it's very difficult to predict how individual bodies will respond. That means you have to weigh the risks against the potential benefits. In this case, COVID has very much been demonstrated to potentially cause a lot of problems in people with any kind of lung damage. I would recommend talking over your concerns with your health care provider to get the best advice specific to your case.

I do not trust the mRNA vaccines…too much info about death and life- threatening injuries. Will get my high dose flu shot …the traditional kind.

I suffered a full body rash after my third and last two years ago. Also breast cancer and cardiomyopathy in the last year.

I do not believe this technology has been properly vetted. First, do no harm ! First line of the Hippocratic Oath. I have listened to and read many brave and concerned drs and scientists talk about the constant pushing of the COVID vax.

Storyteller,

Welcome back! It has been awhile.

It is our personal decision whether or not the Covid vaccination is right for us or not- we all have the choice and a different medical history.

Glad you got the flu shot.
