on third day of Lexoflaxacin Antibiotic and mucus stops. Why?
I have had Bronchiectasis for about 2 years. I started a prescription of Lexofloxacin for 7 days.
After three days feeling much better I quit coughing up mucous. My question is WHY?
I am happy about it, but I can't keep taking an antibiotic to feel good. I am on a 10 day vacation and didn't want to be sick the whole time.
All insight appreciated.
Thanks john

Hello Sut,
So glad that you are feeling better.
Usually, they prescribe antibiotics for 10 days to make sure they get the bug. If you stop now , you may have a reoccurrence and have to start all over.
I have been in your shoes several times. It really is frustrating when you can’t be out in the sun or do things while on vacation due to antibiotics in your system....
But, we must take care of ourselves and hope that the next vacation will be “ antibiotic free”!.
Cautionary note about Levaquin..
I rarely am deterred by side effects, HOWEVER I had a very bad reaction to this drug...a ruptured achiles tendon! There is NO mistaking the pain of this.
Unf this was the strongest antibiotic in pill form that would quel the pseudomonas that resides in my lungs, but I will NEVER take it again.
